Uttarpara

UTTARPARA, a town of British India, in the Hugh district of Bengal, on the river Hugh. Pop. (1901) 7036. It is famous for the public library founded and endowed by Jai Krishna Mukharji, which is specially rich in books on local topography. There is an aided college, and a girls' school supported by a native association.
