DRYOPITHECUS (Gr. 6pus, oak, 71-1.8'9xos, ape, "the ape of the oak-woods"), the name of an extinct ape or monkey from Miocene deposits of France, believed to be allied to the baboons, but perhaps with some affinity to the higher apes.
